Hello, my name is Jeremy Hurd and I am completing my Master's
Degree in Education Administration in May 2007. I graduated from
Sturgis Brown High School in Sturgis, South Dakota in
1996. I was recruited as a football player and attended my first
semester of college at Chadron State
before transferring to South Dakota State University in the Spring 1997
semester. I continued
attending SDSU until my graduation
in December of 2002 with a degree in Physical Education Recreation and
Dance with a minor in Health Education.
I began my first teaching job at Dakota
Middle School in Rapid City, South Dakota and was hired as a Computer
Science teacher in August of
2003. I am currently teaching at Dakota Middle School and I also
coach 8th Grade
Football and 7th Boys Basketball. I started the SDSU Education
Administration program in the Spring 2004 semester and have enjoyed my
coursework in the program. I realized that I had aspirations to
become a
principal
before I started teaching and enjoy the opportunity to work with
students. I also enjoy the rewarding feeling that comes with
being a positive
influence in the lives of young people and see the power that teachers
can have on students.
The challenge of
principalship is one that I look forward to and I believe
that I will be an effective leader for the school in which I
work. Becoming a principal takes a great deal of leadership,
vision, hard work, and dedication. Being a principal is not an
easy job, but the idea of running a school and making important
decisions that effect students and staff alike is a challenge that I
know I am up to.
This portfolio is a reflection of my work and views throughout my
coursework as a prospective principal in the South Dakota State
University Education Administration Program. The completion of
this
degree is a culmination of a vision that I had made when I became a
teacher. There is no doubt in my mind that becoming an
administrator is what I want to do and I am excited to see my vision
and goals put into action.
