Goal 8: The graduate of the educational administration program will be a productive leader who will practice effective communication skills.

Effective communication is an essential aspect of administrative work.  Being able to effectively communicate either verbally or in written text is a vital necessity that will allow principals to get the message that they desire across in the correct manner.  A good majority of my class experience in Informational Literacy dealt with a great deal of statistics and the process of writing effective papers using APA format.

Effective communication also involves writing in ways that convey the feeling and emotion of your words without being rude or disrespectful. I have learned from my own experience that using particular forms of communication are essential.  For instance, you should not sit down to write an e-mail when you are mad, you should never reprimand someone with a pink-slip in their mailbox, and always confront issues face to face and not by the telephone.  A principal must understand what ways they can communicate written, face-to-face, by phone, by e-mail, and etc.  Choosing the incorrect method to handle a situation could result in a loss of trust from staff and maybe students.  A principal must always think twice and act once.  Once a decision is made, there is no taking it back.
