Conclusion

leadership

During my time in the education administration program, I have learned a lot about many different areas of education at the administrative level that have contributed to me becoming a better teacher and future administrator.  I believe that the coursework has prepared me for the issues and topics that every administrator will face at some point during their job as a principal.  One of my favorite classes was School Law because of the complex nature of the law and how without proper thinking toward a situation, you could easily put yourself or the district in a lawsuit.  I also realized the importance of Supervision and the process of observing teachers in their classrooms and learning to communicate with teachers in ways that serves a purpose for them to improve their teaching.

I always knew that when I became a teacher that someday I wanted to become a principal.  I had the opportunity to have two great principals during my middle school and high school years.  My middle school principal Ron Harter was a great example of a fair, honest, and caring principal.  He always greeted you with a smile and his presence in the building was well known.  I looked up to him and respected him a great deal while a student at Williams Middle School.  I also had a great deal of respect for Rich Deaver.  He was always busy with things in the office of the high school, but the decisions that he made for Sturgis High School had a big impact on the culture and climate of the school.  He took a great deal of pride in his work and was fair and honest.

When I made the decision to be a teacher, these positive examples stuck out in my mind as someone I wanted to be.  The challenge of becoming a principal is something that I look forward to.  While there are many obstacles, tasks, and responsibilities for a principal to consider, the idea of using my leadership to become a change agent for a school is an ultimate goal of mine.  I want to be that positive influence on the next generation of students who may look up to me; I want to be that person that teachers can follow when I am leading the way; I want to be that leader who supports teachers in their goals as an educator; and maybe I can also be a positive example for the next teacher who has aspirations of becoming a principal.  I am a leader, I enjoy the challenge that principalship brings and I look forward to achieving my vision of what a school should look like and making it become a reality!
